Performance Updates
Power stays at 315 horsepower from the turbocharged K20C four-cylinder, built at Honda’s Anna Engine Plant in Ohio, and it is available exclusively with a manual transmission. Honda spent the 2027 update on the details that change how the car feels at the limit:
- Optimized +R mode damping to reduce bouncing and impact harshness
- Improved Rev Match for faster engine response on downshifts
- More direct brake pedal feel from an added yoke spring
- Better engine cooling through improved airflow velocity
Styling and Colors
The front end is more aggressive, with a redesigned fascia, a larger grille opening, and a deeper front splitter that increases downforce. The engine cover has a new design that echoes early Japanese-market Type R models. Colors are Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Championship White, plus a new color for 2027, Meteorite Gray Metallic.
Inside: Heated Seats and New Trim
The big comfort addition is heated front seats, a first for the Type R, with three-level controls. That is a welcome upgrade on a cold High Desert winter morning.
- Premium Ultrasuede® on the instrument panel and upper front door panels
- Diamond-pattern mesh dash trim with a black surround
- Darker gray aluminum shift knob, console trim, and door handles
- Updated seat perforation design with black striping
- Auto-dimming rearview mirror

Safety Updates

Fuel Economy

Is a Type R Right for You?
A Type R is for drivers who want to row their own gears. It is manual only, so if you prefer an automatic, the rest of the Civic lineup, including the Civic Hatchback and Civic Hybrid, is a better fit. If you do want the manual, a daily commute on the 15 and a weekend on a twisty road are both on the table.
