2027 Passport TrailSport at the Rebelle Rally

October 23rd, 2026 by

Honda entered a 2027 Passport TrailSport in the Rebelle Rally, a multi-day desert navigation event across Nevada and California. For High Desert drivers, it is a useful excuse to look at what changed on the 2027 TrailSport and what Honda actually says about it. Here is the short version, with the limits included.

  • 9.65 inches of ground clearance on the 2027 TrailSport, up 1.38 inches from the 2026 model, according to Honda
  • Nearly 70% of the major suspension components were redesigned, per Honda
  • 3.5L V6 with a 10-speed automatic and torque-vectoring i-VTM4® all-wheel drive

What Is the Rebelle Rally?

Honda describes the Rebelle Rally as America’s longest off-road rally and the first women’s off-road navigation rally in the United States. Teams are not racing for outright speed. They use paper maps, compasses and headings to find hidden checkpoints, with no GPS or cell phones, across more than 1,500 miles of Nevada and California desert. This year’s route starts outside Las Vegas and finishes near Imperial Sand Dunes, California, with seven days of scored competition and 10 to 12 hours of off-road driving each day, according to Honda. Honda says this is its eighth year competing.

What Honda Entered

Honda’s team of associates from the Honda of America Racing Team entered one 2027 Passport TrailSport, team number 208, called the “Good TrailSports,” in the X-Cross Bone Stock class. Honda says the SUV competes without modifications to its chassis, off-road tuned suspension, 3.5-liter V6 engine, 10-speed automatic transmission or i-VTM4 all-wheel drive system. The only change Honda mentions is a Rebelle Rally and team wrap.

We do not have results to share, so check the Rebelle Rally’s own website for the outcome. We will not guess at how any team finished.

Ground Clearance and Angles

Honda published a side-by-side of the 2027 and 2026 Passport TrailSport:

Measurement 2026 TrailSport 2027 TrailSport
Ground clearance 8.27 inches 9.65 inches
Approach angle 23 degrees 25 degrees
Departure angle 23 degrees 25 degrees
Breakover angle 20 degrees 23 degrees

The Suspension Rework

Honda says it did not simply add taller springs. Instead, engineers redesigned nearly 70% of the major suspension components, including springs, dampers, control arms, stabilizer bars and knuckles, along with the front driveshafts and front subframe. In total, Honda counts 28 suspension and related chassis parts as redesigned, reengineered or new, and says the changes also improve suspension articulation and steering feel. Honda does not give a specific lift amount.

Trail Tech

On the 2027 TrailSport, Honda says the TrailWatch™ camera system and a heated steering wheel are now standard across TrailSport trims. TrailWatch offers four views (front, rear, side and 360 degree) with tire placement graphics. Honda also notes a free Honda Trail Experience app for 2026 and 2027 Passport TrailSport, Pilot TrailSport and CR-V TrailSport owners that records details such as elevation, pitch, roll, speed and location.

Styling updates include more pronounced fender flares, a resculpted lower front fascia and amber LED hood scoop lights. Smoke Blue Pearl joins the color palette, and the available Blackout Package includes black 18-inch alloy wheels.

Powertrain and Fuel Economy

Honda describes the Passport as V6-powered with torque-vectoring i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, and names the 3.5-liter V6 and 10-speed automatic. We are leaving out horsepower, torque and towing figures, so ask us about those or check the Owner’s Manual. Honda lists the 2027 Passport TrailSport at 18 city, 22 highway and 20 combined mpg.

Who It Fits, and Honest Limits

The TrailSport suits drivers who want an SUV with extra clearance for dirt roads and trail access, whether that is the roads around Stoddard Valley and Johnson Valley or a drive through the Mojave National Preserve. It also works as an everyday family SUV in Victorville and Apple Valley.

The limits are worth stating plainly. A rally entry in the stock class tells you the production vehicle was used as built, but it is not a promise about every trail. The Passport TrailSport is not a rock crawler, and AWD cannot provide traction in every situation. If you tow, confirm the rating for the exact vehicle in the Owner’s Manual.
